Welcome back to Your Average Witch, where every Tuesday, we talk about witch life, witch stories and sometimes a little witchcraft. Your Average Witch is brought to you by Crepuscular Conjuration. This week, I'm talking about Anahata's Purpose. Anahata's Purpose is a spiritual retreat that takes place every September, and this year it's happening just outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Joining me to talk about it is the founder of Anahata's Purpose, Rachel. Hello, I love you. Welcome to the show. Let’s talk about Anahata’s!

RachelGuest

00:49

Let’s! (dogs barking) oh, hold on, they have something to say. That's enough. They're excited. They're so excited. They're like I have a whole ass obstacle course in my living room right now that I can play on. They're excited about it. They're like I can go jump over bins and stuff. So I've been getting all the stuff out of the basement. I was covered full of joy. Bins full of joy. Yeah, it's like I forgot what's in some of them. Um, that's fun. I was like oh, I forgot that I have this. Yes, yeah, like I forgot about the blow up unicorn.

KimHost

01:30

Oh yeah, so did I.

RachelGuest

01:37

Right, I opened up this bin. What's in here? A unicorn that's the size of me, cool.

KimHost

01:42

So you have been on the show to talk about Anahata’s before, but this is a new, a different year. Why should people come this year? What's different?

RachelGuest

01:51

Well, we're doing a big thing on the Thursday that we're going to- I'm just going to talk about it- because you were the inspiration and I need everyone to know that you are the reason that this is happening.

KimHost

02:10

You're welcome.

RachelGuest

02:12

Yeah, the Rocky Horror Picture Show that Corey will be leading the call in response to…

KimHost

02:15

Cousin!

RachelGuest

02:16

Cousin is on a call with Jeremy right now while they're figuring out all the logistics to it and I sent over a little email with my queers. But it's gonna be, I think it's gonna be super epic. Like the Thursday music was always really cool but I was like, I don't know if music is the thing for Thursday. Like I feel like we need to do something more intense and you saying that you never saw it and the excite… It enraged me and then it inspired me, and now here we are, just a month away from your first live experience and we haven't done anything like that. There's a lot of things this year that are like a lot of people could be involved in and that's going to be fun, yeah. So this is. That's a big one. Another thing. Are you ready? I know how much you love the drums. You love RhythmetriX.

KimHost

03:30

I do. Yeah, autism.

RachelGuest

03:33

They're bringing enough instruments for 120 people.

KimHost

03:34

I heard a rumor of that and I was driving so I was safe, but I also jumped up and down in my seat quite a bit and shook the steering wheel.

RachelGuest

03:38

Yeah, so that's epic, that's going to be epic.

KimHost

03:44

I am excited, that's going to be amazing. I just want to stand in the middle of it with my little triangle or whatever and just be battered to death by these vibes.

RachelGuest

03:55

Yeah, like I'm getting goosebumps talking about it. When Max was telling me about it, he's like we did it out here in Colorado and it was amazing because all of a sudden, a hundred plus people just sync up. Yeah, what? Oh chills, I know. And during that time, that same time, for people who are like I don't know how comfortable I am with a shaker, we're having a slip and slide going with the Paint Ground. So there's going to be this like UV paint slip and slide happening next to this crazy drum thing happening next to the playground. So everyone is just going to be fucking off and it's going to be great. I am so freaking excited. It's like choose your level of involvement.

KimHost

04:48

God, I'm so excited I know, I know we're like a week and a day. Literally right what I mean a month and a day, jesus. Sorry, sorry, sorry, that was rude.

RachelGuest

05:02

Did it hurt your chest? It did. I was like what are we? My brain was like when is this going out? Is this what's happening? Yeah, no, it's. I don't know if you guys are better at that than I am.

KimHost

05:18

I don't know. I saw, I looked at the thing and it was counting down, but I know it starts on Thursday and today's Thursday Jupiter Day. That's a great day to start a freaking event, yeah

RachelGuest

05:29

Did you see the on the logo? There's Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, the sun.

KimHost

05:35

Yes, for the days that were there, for the days that were there that drum thing sounds like people all aligning together and doing a bunch of magic, and I'm fucking here for it absolutely that is, there's a lot of like just that. And then there's a slip and slide. Are you fucking kidding?

RachelGuest

05:56

Yeah, so like, even if you don't want to musically join, you can just be a different expression of the magic happening in that area.

KimHost

06:09

I don't think you could arrange it this year, but if you also arranged for the primal scream people to come in at the last minute, get in the middle and also scream holy, the… Spring City would explode. It would burst into magical flames. Maybe, Isn't that amazing.

RachelGuest

06:37

I'm like I could maybe make this happen. I'm going to write this down. Primal Scream plus RhythmetriX. Sick, sick, sick, sick, sick. Listen, no, Things materialize there. It is magic. So Like I just think about how last year we had to move the entire stage, yeah, and that magic just fucking happened. So it's like I don't know. Anything's possible. You know what we need to do, and then bloop, bloop, bloop, it's done. Yeah, I was astounded. Wild.

RachelGuest

07:18

That was one of my favorite moments last year was driving up in Sky Hill on a golf cart and screaming “Beans!” to see who would come out, to be like I need you to just come bring stuff to decorate. And in my mind it was like all these people coming out all at once but like that wasn't the reality because a lot of people were in workshops, yeah, so I just got them like, but there was still a couple people that came out and they're like what's going on? And I was like I need you to help and they're like, all right, we're on it. And they just like grabbed their decorations and just like people, Phoenix were just grabbing stuff and going up there. We got Jeff Goldblum up there. He's important. It was one of the most important parts was having Jeff Goldblum up there. Yeah, yeah, it's magic, just happens. Magic just happens.

KimHost

08:09

I also forgot that it was a shower curtain and I thought Jeff Goldblum was there and I missed it.

RachelGuest

08:17

He's always. He's always rhere, isn't he? Yeah, Laura Tempest, not only teaching a class, but also performing a spell with their partner. Oh yeah, I don't even know if I've actually. This might be a first time announcement of that.

KimHost

08:43

Are they going to dance for us a little bit?

RachelGuest

08:45

Yeah, oh, not a little bit. There's going to be a whole thing.

KimHost

08:50

Okay good, okay,, I'm so excited for that. Yeah, I saw her perform at Tribal Fest in 2007 and it was amazing. I am so excited.

RachelGuest

09:01

I am too, I've only seen like a YouTube video.

KimHost

09:05

My worlds are intersecting and it's blowing my mind.

RachelGuest

09:07

I'm here for it. It's great. It's great. I'm so excited for them to come. Me too, I need to be able to take her class.

KimHost

09:20

And WBAH is going to be back this year.

RachelGuest

09:22

Yes, Just got the tickets on Tuesday, so their flights are confirmed and they are. It's cute, it's cute, how excited.

KimHost

09:35

And you're doing a freaking live show with them. I'm interested to see how that plays out.

RachelGuest

09:42

Yeah, because really it was just tour, but the people from the tour that saw what that was like. It's gonna be fun. We have an idea of a topic and it's kind of like a heavy topic.

KimHost

10:00

Oh, how are you gonna do a heavy topic with you guys all together? That seems like it's not gonna work if that's the whole thing.

RachelGuest

10:05

That's literally we're all funny because of our trauma. Oh good, that seems safe. That's how we're gonna talk about heavy shit, okay, and it'll be fine, because we'll just make jokes out of it. We all are hilarious, so here for it. It'll, it's, it'll be good. I probably won't even really know and I'm just probably going to wing it.

KimHost

10:30

Okay.

RachelGuest

10:33

A lot of times the shows are Teresa's running the show and I just come in and say ridiculous shit, oh, we have Tabitha coming in. Tabitha's coming back, yay, yeah, so she's going to be there for the live show. Okay, good, so that's a new announcement right here too, and that's dope. This is exclusives. It's a Your Average Witch exclusive right here. Mags, mags. You know what else? Why else other people should come? Sandwiches.

KimHost

11:08

Why sandwiches? Please elaborate.

RachelGuest

11:10

Hhummus, your hummus sandwich. Yes.

KimHost

11:12

Yes! I thought something different. I thought it was like is there going to be a sandwich bar like the cereal bar?

RachelGuest

11:20

No, but that would be really really cool.

KimHost

11:25

Yes, what? What day is hummus day? Do we know, I don't know, start getting really excited now?

RachelGuest

11:31

No, but no, it'll be there. It'll be there I'm gonna make y'all this hummus and it comes with falafel.

KimHost

11:35

Right, it is one of the best things I've ever eaten in my entire life, that's really big and I've eaten a lot.

RachelGuest

11:48

Yeah, that's, that's coming from a Taurus that's strong.

KimHost

11:51

I was gonna say, in case you didn't know, if you've never heard this podcast before, I'm a Taurus and I love food.

RachelGuest

11:58

Samesies, samesies. Yeah, we have Jaya Kava coming back, cool. And we have Corey from the Joppa Coffee. It's around both of them and it's not up yet, but the Aura photo is coming back too. Yay, yeah, I'm giving you all the secret details.

KimHost

12:23

Okay, I have more food questions. Yeah, no, that's fine, there's gonna be. So last year John made kombucha and he made acai bowls he did. I know people were really excited about that and they were saying, hey, make sure you try this out. So that's gonna be there again this year.

RachelGuest

12:41

Yay, it is, and the store Is actually gonna be like food. Oh, so it'll be food, and merch and Warpath are in the store, so there will be more food other than just mealtimes. I feel like a lot of people didn’t know the acai bowls were there.

KimHost

12:59

Yeah, it was hard to advertise them so we pushed it because it was hot as 19 balls in there. But if they didn't come in I couldn't tell them yeah, so we'll know.

RachelGuest

13:16

Hopefully by next week I'll have the, the food schedule kind of solidified cool. Yeah, more food, always excited. Yeah, I also try to do less workshops this year and I ended up doing more again like I really tried, I did still more that have to go up.

KimHost

13:41

Didn't you say this was the the year that you got the most?

RachelGuest

13:46

Yes, Last year I was like I'm never doing these many workshops again. And then somehow.

KimHost

13:53

I am already despairing that I'm not going to be able to get everything, not even my top three. I have to pick like two. It's going to be great, though that is not criticism, criticism, I'm just excited, that is excitement. Yeah, that's how many good things there are.

RachelGuest

14:11

There's a lot, there's a lot of really good things like a lot I'm even doing it and I'm afraid I'm excited for Erica's class. Who does the shadow work.

KimHost

14:28

Oh, let's all cry. Great.

RachelGuest

14:30

She's not doing that this year. She's had an intense near death experience and she's going to talk about that.

KimHost

14:42

Why do you think that wouldn't make me cry?

RachelGuest

14:45

No, I, I I'm not saying it's not gonna make you cry, no, okay you're still gonna cry. oh you're still gonna cry. I'm just excited about crying as I normally am good, making you cry is one of my favorite things. You know this. Yeah, yeah, literally, that's one of my top three classes is making you cry.

KimHost

14:58

Great Thanks.

RachelGuest

15:02

It is. It's my favorite. There's a lot. I think the app is going to definitely make things a lot different this year too. Yeah, the app.

KimHost

15:29

The app is cool. Y'all Download the app. I don't know where to go to download it.

RachelGuest

15:35

It's just any Apple Store, google Play, just type in Anahata's Purpose, it'll pop right up.

KimHost

15:41

Download it because it is making a difference already, because one, you can start getting excited now and talk to your friends now on the app because, hello, it's the forum and there's a community there. You can also look at the schedule and you can star your schedule with the classes you want and it builds your schedule for you.

RachelGuest

16:02

Yep, and also the facilitators are starting to hop in on there now so you can actually connect. I need to do that. Yeah, you can start connecting with a lot of the facilitators beforehand to see, like, okay, what is this workshop? What are… you know? They're there ready to talk about things now, which is amazing. Also, though, I'll be able to send push notifications if a workshop

changes.

KimHost

16:33

Yeah, if it's not at the dock, it's at the nature center. Yes, so the meditation garden or the archery range, do you hear all these? The hammock village. Do you hear all these things I'm saying? People, it's huge, there's so many places to go.

RachelGuest

16:50

Tim's doing a whole new archery layout. Oh so like the whole walkway up is going to be blocked off because that's going to be like a whole yeah, man yeah, yeah, that's good, it's real good. I love them.

KimHost

17:14

Okay, my special request for everyone, number one go take an archery. Nope, this is not about me, this is about warpath. Go up to the archery range, introduce yourself, talk to them they're awesome people, Tim is great. But also go down to the shop and tell them you want one of the knives that everyone wears because they're so freaking handy. Make sure you can check it when you fly home or mail it to yourself, but get one of the little wearable knives that they have. They're like two inches tall. It seems small, but it's so handy. While you're there, go get it Also. Jess is amazing and I love her.

RachelGuest

17:54

Yes, I love mine. I've had mine forever. They also sell out super fast. That's the first thing that sells out, because they're great. It's like all of us have just it's been our thing. Yeah, it's a bean thing.

KimHost

18:13

I did not get one the first year and I was sad the entire year, and that's the first thing I did when I got there was go there before anything even started and got my knife.

RachelGuest

18:34

Yeah, I'm pretty sure by like dinner time friday they were gone. I don't know, maybe I'll tell.

KimHost

18:30

In other words, go, go to the shop and tell Jess, you're here for your festival knife. Here's my. However much money it costs.

RachelGuest

18:37

It's like 50 bucks.

KimHost

18:40

Okay, that's what I thought. That's. Here's my 50. Can I please have my, my knife that I need to be at Anahata’s for life.

RachelGuest

18:55

It's, it's your knife for life it's….

KimHost

18:57

It's really really cool and they're really sharp and they have this cute little leather yeah, holders.

RachelGuest

19:04

You people don't know that it's a knife. Whenever I'm wearing it, yeah, and I actually it's kind of become like a little protection amulet for me, like I just like having it on when I'm feeling vulnerable Cause I'm like I can cut you. Yeah, it just makes me feel safe.

KimHost

19:25

Cool, I'm excited.

RachelGuest

19:27

 I am too.

KimHost

19:28

Okay, is there anything else that we need to cover?

RachelGuest

19:33

We have another thank you wall, the thank you, oh, the gratitude wall. Yeah, that's in the app. Okay, I have a bunch of them Like. I keep them. If I they don't, I have them.

KimHost

19:48

I have the ones that I think they're in here actually.

RachelGuest

19:49

Yeah, and I want to make like I don't see it. I want to take photos of each one and make like a book out of them. I can like, yeah, that's the goal, the longterm goal. I have, like you know, four or five years of them right now, but I start. You know, I like to give them out though too.

KimHost

20:12

So I yeah, mine are in here, because a lot of the time I'll be like I'm a piece of shit. Who should…why? Why do I have this podcast? Who am I to interview this person? And so I pull out one of the things. I'm like oh, that's why. Okay, that's why it's behind the computer, so I can't get it right now, but they're here.

RachelGuest

20:29

I do love that.

KimHost

20:33

Okay, you said something and then I interrupted you with the gratitude wall.

RachelGuest

20:40

No, I think. Well, the graduate walls are just that thing. That's there, that is dope oh, damn it.

KimHost

20:52

Oh well, what else is happening? What else have we left out? New stuff?

RachelGuest

20:57

All right, let me, let me pull up the the whole ass stuff to get people hyped. We have, Debra Burris, who's the author of Weather Witchery coming. we have all.

KimHost

21:10

Yeah, I'm interested in that one, me too me too.

RachelGuest

21:17

Oh my god, okay, Robin Eden Spore. Robin is running, it's called the Magic of Neurodivergency in the nature center and the whole thing is basically going to be a magic play. Like you're just playing with the magic of your, like I just I'm just gonna read it. I'm gonna read it to you and you're gonna fucking like it. Calling all beings who sometimes feel like they don't belong in their human suits. Have you often felt misunderstood? Do you view the world differently than many around you? Have you struggled to find where you fit in? Or have you settled in quite nicely with a group of others who are deliciously different, like you, which is all of us I have? Yeah, do you have something inside of you that wants to come out but has never received permission? Consider this your chance to explore and welcome the wonderful, weird, complex, misunderstood, beautiful depths of your unexpressed parts. Right, like just that alone is okay. Yeah, sign me up. We will create a safe container with the support of others who have self-selected to be on the same journey, and then we will have time for choose our own adventure, free expression time, perhaps prompts will be provided and all forms of creative play will be encouraged, individually, with a partner or in a group and we will end with time for participants to share what has come up. So it's like just play and be magical and do fun things like just explore practices.

KimHost

23:16

That’s exciting! Yeah, I want to do that. Yeah, dang it. I have so many things I'm adding to this. I know I'm not going to get them all and I'm already sad. I, if I cry this year, is people because I miss things, not just people.

RachelGuest

23:36

 You will cry.

KimHost

23:37

Okay, probably, I'm sure I will, but it will also be because I'm missing things that I really want to attend and experience, because, y'all, this is a trip about experiences. Anahata’s is about experiencing things, experiencing yourself.

RachelGuest

23:53

Yeah, it's true, In a safe place, at least for me, for most people. I think that's what it is. You were not a crier when I first met you. Look, you wore that badge proudly. And then I was like I'm sorry, what did you say to me here?

KimHost

24:14

You look real cheerful right now.

RachelGuest

24:17

I am. I'm so full of joy. Hold this tissue and I'll just walk away.

KimHost

24:24

Oh my god, it's the river the river.

RachelGuest

24:28

I mean I didn't do it, river did it.

KimHost

24:33

I might cry again. Oh my god, when you walk down the path and you see the river when you come around the curve. It's my favorite. Yeah, but the shit I did not expect.

RachelGuest

24:48

I want to just talk about my joy, but I can't because you're crying.

KimHost

24:52

Stop it immediately one of my tears literally just fell out of my eye and rolled down my cheek like in the movies.

RachelGuest

25:04

Let me get it. I want it. Okay. It's crazy how, like that, I know exactly that spot you're talking about. It's like right before you get to that one house, kind of before it's like like you can kind of see it a little, but there's just a one little spot where you start actually seeing the water and you're like, oh yes, uh, everyone who's been there knows the spot I'm talking about. Yeah, because it impacts you, y'all come get that impact well, it was even like I was listening to WBAH this morning and they talk about it, about how, like Macy was talking about, like she's like I've only been there twice and I can see all the whole property in my head, like I know the whole layout. It's like you go there one time. I don't know what it is about that that prop, that space, that's just all of us being there.

KimHost

26:06

Yeah, and you walking the perimeter and making us safe for us.

RachelGuest

26:12

 Yes, I do do that.

KimHost

26:17

See people you're looked after while you're here.

RachelGuest

26:19

It's a fun. It's a fun thing that I do. I actually let somebody join me last year in that, because I don't… like I energetically walk around it. I go down to the water and I create my big bubble around the whole property and I lock it into place and then, when it's all done, I go and take it down and then I just pass out for a week.

KimHost

26:49

That's a little drop. Tell me when you do it. If you want to push, if you want to boost, tell me.

RachelGuest

26:55

I'm at. Yeah, I think. I do it before, like Thursday, Like I do it earlier. I think I might open it up this year. Oh, Maybe I'll open it up.

KimHost

27:15

I thought you meant like the Friday before you did it like, before we get there.

RachelGuest

27:23

I do it like a few days before opening, so like Tuesday, Wednesday, okay, yeah.

KimHost

27:31

Well, whether you open it up or not, if you let me know, then I will say hey, bees, let's push some energy at rachel, so she can build a better bubble.

RachelGuest

27:35

All right, you can just send those pew-pews right to the bubble. Okay, pew, pew, pew. Okay, it's a solar generator.

KimHost

27:57

Okay, here's what I'm envisioning. Tell me, did you know that there are beds you can lay on that are actually giant boxes full of beehives? No, and the bees are buzzing, so there's that hum, so you've got those vibrations going through your body and they're warm, so it's like a warmed bed and they have, like some places have, bee houses, and it's like this little tiny house, tiny home home, with a bed in it that's made of bees, and so when you lay on it, you feel that vibration that moves through your body and you get the warmth. And that's what we're saying, that's what the beehive is sending you.

RachelGuest

28:42

I'm like excited and scared, all at the same time.

KimHost

28:46

Yeah, thinking of the bed failing is really unpleasant. What A bee bed.

RachelGuest

28:56

What.

KimHost

28:57

Yeah, I'll link you when I can find it again. That's wild Mm-hmm, but it sounds so healing and nice.

RachelGuest

29:10

Yeah, absolutely like on a chilly morning and you're in your little bee warmed bed buzzing away and it's like that sounds so good but also just the clout of being able to just go up to somebody like hey, do you ever sleep with, like a beehive, of being able to just go up to somebody and be like hey, did you ever sleep with a beehive.

KimHost

29:38

Yeah, I'll ever lay on top of 20,000 honeybees. Crazy, crazy. I made that number up. I don't know how many bees it is.

RachelGuest

29:43

No but still it's probably around that If it's a queen size bee.

KimHost

29:45

I'm bad at math.

RachelGuest

29:48

Me too.

KimHost

29:50

I'm going to say that's facts. If I have made up a percent, if I haven't given, if I'm giving a percentage or any sort of number, I probably made it up, just so everyone knows. I'm here for it.

RachelGuest

29:58

That's my secret. I think it's a great number. I think you should stick with the system and I think you should not tell anyone that again.

KimHost

30:06

Okay, but I do often say I'm bad at math so they can just extrapolate. Yeah, Can you explain where the food comes from? From new people who don't know.

30:18

My partner. My partner owns a restaurant, he is a chef and he is a fantastic chef. That makes one of Kim's favorite foods ever.

KimHost

30:29

Yes, an actual chef, not just someone who works in a restaurant.

RachelGuest

30:34

He's a chef. Yeah, he's owned the restaurant for 10 years and he is the chef of the restaurant, and it's the best food.

KimHost

30:49

Go on facebook. Look for kitchen seven, not 719. That's my old area code what is it?

RachelGuest

30:55

519 on the website and it should be linked. He closes the restaurant for the four days that were there and he takes over the kitchen with his team and just produces the most delicious fucking food for everybody and it's really like. I love hearing the food feedback feedback from people like people talk about how, like so not camp food, it is no. This is the only campground I've ever been able. Well, like that I've not ever been able, because our last site, too, we were able to take over the kitchen. But that's the hardest thing about finding a campground is finding one that allows you to use the kitchen.

KimHost

31:40

Go to the Kitchen 519 facebook and follow it and look at all the pictures and be sad if you don't live in the Jersey area. Because he’s constantly hurting my feelings with pictures of food that I cannot eat.

RachelGuest

31:56

It it does also bring, bring me joy when I see you comment on it and I'm like she's so upset I hope she's crying..

KimHost

32:14

I get really angry. Then I have to go stand in my refrigerator with the door open, searching uselessly for things that are not there yeah just eat your food. I'll just eat seven slices of cheese then. Great thanks,Rachel and John.

RachelGuest

32:24

What is it? Smoked gouda?

KimHost

32:25

No, it's the it's. It is delicious, it's some really buttery havarti from Costco, but it's not. bourbon, dr pepper, short rib or whatever the hell he puts out that day.

RachelGuest

32:49

It is offensive how good he is at cooking.

KimHost

32:54

But y'all can experience it. If you come to Anahata’s you can.

RachelGuest

33:00

There's still outposts cabins available, some Orchard Hill cabins available. I did. There was four Webster spots that popped up but I don't know if they'll be there still. They might be there still when this goes out.

KimHost

33:20

If you are a bean and you are concerned about, oh, I want to go where the beans are.

The beans are everywhere. We are Legion, no matter where you are sleeping.

RachelGuest

33:27

No matter where you are sleeping, there will be beans nearby, so don't worry yeah, the first year it was sky hill takeover and like that thing, but now it's complete takeover. It is a big old can of beans.

KimHost

33:48

Not just witchcraft, though I know I'm no. I was wondering. It's the c part of ocd and I can't stop touching it it is soft. Yeah, that's why I was like I'm petting a dress that's hanging in the closet next to me, y'all. That's what she's watching me do and I'm doing it compulsively.

RachelGuest

34:04

I can't I'm sitting here like I'm like I don't have anything soft near me and now I want to touch something soft. Maggie, there you are.

KimHost

34:09

Tell us about the music.

RachelGuest

34:10
Andrea actually curated one of the bands, because Andrea Appalachia was like Holy River. I saw them, they were fantastic and I was like let me creep. And now they're coming, so that's super dope. Nick Greeley and the Operators is one of my favorite local bands. They're a funk band. Nick was actually there in our headliner. Was a headliner? Maybe no, wasn't our headliner? 2021? Uh, played the same night as el caribe funk, so I'm super stoked about that. And then Sean Daniels and the law-abiding citizens. I've known Shauno for a really long time. They are, you know. I got to add my bluegrass in there, so they're a super cool bluegrass band. And I actually you know the Beyonce Texas Hold'em song.

KimHost

35:20

No, let's pretend that I do.

RachelGuest

35:21

Okay, well, I like this song came out and I messaged it to Shawno and I was like you guys need to learn this song because it's Beyonce and all of them ladies are going to know every word. Yeah, this jam. And then Jeremy sent, like an official request email to Sean. I don't know. Dear Sean Daniels, we require that you and your group learn this song. So I'm hoping that they'll do a little Beyonce bluegrass because that'll be fun. But Sean actually played at the very first Anahatas, oh yeah, in a different band. That's cool, more at these corners. And now the band's bigger and has morphed. So it's exciting, it's very exciting, it's good.

KimHost

36:25

What year are we on Eight nine.

RachelGuest

36:31

Seven. I don't know, I don't either. Well, it's hard because wait Seven.

KimHost

36:42

Okay, so in two years, that's when the big one happens in my brain, because three, six and nine are huge, I mean for most witches. But yes, six is my lucky number, so last year was great, and then in nine is Ken's lucky number, amusingly. But so I'm excited for the ninth year too. And then 10 is just like a big celebration because he made 10 years yeah, 10 is just epic, 10 is just I am excited for that anyway. Well, that's, that's in three years. Let's talk about now yeah what is your,

what are you looking forward to the most?

RachelGuest

37:30

I'm really excited about Laura Tempest. Mm-hmm, super excited about Laura Tempest. I'm super excited about doing Rocky Horror, because I want to. I know there's going to be a bunch of us magentas and I'm excited for just like a magenta battle, but like a friendly one. See, I don't.

KimHost

37:57

That's right, I thought you were talking about your aura. For a second I was like, oh, I don't know what you're talking about. And I was like, wait, isn't that a character? RachelGuest

38:04

It is, it is a character. So I'm just I'm excited for to see everyone. So people are dressing up. People are dressing up Because I've seen that question a lot. People do not need to dress up.

KimHost

38:16

I will not be because I am brand new Baby, little baby, baby, grandpa, that's fine.

RachelGuest

38:23

That's fine. And you're not really allowed to watch it beforehand. So don't worry, we just know that this is a thing Like you can't. You're not allowed to. Maggie, can we stop? Thank you, thank you. I'm really I feel, like a lot of facilitators, especially the ones that have been here for a while, that this year is a year where they're really stepping into, like, what they want to teach. That's something that I always like. What do you want to do? Like, what is the experience that you want to bring? What is your thing? And in talking to some of them, I think that I'm excited to see that next level of expression. But even like to Tim and Jess, like the way that Tim is amping up the archery range, like the way that Tim is amping up the the archery range One, the fact that he feels like the attendees are ready for it. That's, you know, he's watched us grow from little babies. He has and he's ready for it and he sees that the attendees are ready for it and that's just fucking epic and Joe's going to be. I mean, you know how much I love my Joe, Joe and Colleen and Theresa, Macy, like their workshops are much more them this year and that I really love. I love that and I'm excited about our popcorn folk. Yes, they're gonna be…

KimHost

40:20

Rusted Rabbit!

RachelGuest

40:25

Rusted Rabbit, doing the, what is the title of it? I can't think of it yeah, and it's like that has been something that has just been needed, because we know how everyone has the moment where they're just feeling a little vulnerable at first and they're just like, oh, I just needed to meet somebody, and the fact that that is going to be available and that it's going to be fun because it's our popcorn parents that are making it happen, you know, like it's that we're not going to explain that.

KimHost

40:54

You have to come experience that for yourself. Yeah, popcorn parents is what I'm talking about.

RachelGuest

41:02

Yes, you'll find out, yeah you will, you absolutely fucking will, and you're gonna love it. (roars)

KimHost

41:16

Look at the sound waves of what you just said.

RachelGuest

41:18

That's fine.

KimHost

41:19

I'm gonna have to shrink that down so much.

RachelGuest

41:22

That all sounds so weird. You're going to love it, gross Gross. Also. I'm excited about Summer. Yeah, yes, the first fire, watching their journey in diving into yes, fire, watching their journey in diving into, yes, the reason they weren't here last year and how it's presenting itself now.  I'm so excited and if you go on the colorful calendar, I have it as a completely different color. And I've done this before in the past when I do, when there's different kinds of workshops where I'm like I want people to look at this and go to this, like, is this something that I think is important? You're not going to be able to get this somewhere else, you're not going to be able to have this experience somewhere else.

KimHost

42:18

Yeah, go check that out. Plus Summer's just great.

RachelGuest

42:22

Summer is great.

KimHost

42:23

Summer's been on this podcast. So if you go back and look for Summer, I think they're the Innovative Native or Creative Native.

RachelGuest

42:33

Creative Native.

KimHost

42:35

Look for that in my list of titles and that is who we're talking about. Yeah, great storyteller. Yeah.

RachelGuest

42:45

We're all going to learn Just how great the storyteller. Yeah, we're all going to learn just how how great the storyteller is.

KimHost

42:50

Yeah, didn't they go? Isn't that what they went to? This program for y'all look out, y'all need to come.

RachelGuest

42:58

Yeah, yep, but again you said this. You know it's not all witchy stuff either. So there's some really great plant workshops this year, everything from just working with indigenous microorganisms from around where you live. I'm excited about that one. That one's a really good one. And then one of my favorite things, because I talk about this a lot just in my personal life, with people that I know that really enjoy taking hallucinogens, eating that psilocybin.

KimHost

43:42

Super not me. I did try them this year and I hate them.

RachelGuest

43:46

I've done it like a very handful of times, Like I'm just, I'm not. I mean, I can't even smoke weed or I have anxiety. I don't drink alcohol. That's why no one else drinks alcohol at Anahata's.

KimHost

43:58

I appreciate that.

RachelGuest

44:01

But yeah, but there is a workshop about the importance of integrating your experience, and that is something that I feel I've had to talk to people about, like, not like a full-on intervention, but I've had to be like maybe you should take a break and integrate that shit, but I'm not trained to do that, like to tell, like yeah, I can't walk you through it, but you should find someone who can.

Yeah, so someone you did. Yes, I didn't even find. They found me, which is dope, and now they're going to get to learn all the people, somebody who you know probably takes the assignment on a semi.

KimHost

44:52

Can you tell what class? Can you like say the name so people know what to look for? Yes, Let me either the person or the class. So many different titles.

RachelGuest

45:04

I know what the fuck is that? The importance of psychedelic integration oh, that sounds like a study that I would find on the national institute of health website. Yeah, yeah, pretty much. If you go into the google calendar, the second page has all the workshop information, just for folks want to know, and then the workshops are in alphabetical order and have the facilitator's name and their links. If anybody wants to, I like that. Yeah, if anyone wants to look at their facilitators a little bit more, they can do that there.

KimHost

46:03

Here it is, but let's see I'm actually going to make a page on my website that people can go to for references for my class.

RachelGuest

46:21

Yeah, you should do that. Trauma-informed psychedelic integration coach, plant medicine facilitator and ceremonialist cool. Has served as a psychedelic integration guide for several at-home ketamine companies and several ketamine clinics in NYC. Has worked with ayahuasca, cambo things I can't even pronounce. So it's not someone who's just yeah, I like doing drugs, let's talk about it.

KimHost

47:03

How much do you love pot.

RachelGuest

47:04

Yeah, yeah, it's like somebody who has held these spaces for other people, so that's exciting it is very funny that your name is gemini leo yeah, of course it is. That's funny. Yeah, that's always. I mean, I am the gemini leo because I have that leo moon, you know that tracks my hair.

KimHost

47:38

I know, thinking of the first, my first Anahata’s is when you were in that like flight suit and your hair is just like bam, so big it's like whoa oh damn. There's a Leo there somewhere.

RachelGuest

47:54

My hair was so damaged then Because that was right after my 2020 hair transformation where I went apricot, my 2020 hair transformation where I went apricot If you go on my Facebook and go back a couple of profile pictures, it was really great for like a week and then it was horrible.

KimHost

48:17

Like the summer, I used a lot of sun in.

RachelGuest

48:21

Yes, I just had my 2020 breakdown. It was like right after 2020 and I'm like you're allowed what better time to have than a time you don't have to go in an office and say whoa, look at my hair oh, yeah, and wanda it was well. Might have been 2020, I don't know. It was after, whenever wandavision first came out and I see that, okay, okay, I wanted the hair, that's what I wanted, and it didn't happen, because I don't have hair that can be apricot.

KimHost

48:52

Let's talk about the ending ceremony, which I have never attended, but this is going to be my first year where I do. I specifically pushed out my flight date to Monday so I could come.

RachelGuest

49:05

It's, it's. I mean we can talk about it.

KimHost

49:10

But I'm looking forward to crying. Yeah, I heard, I hear everyone does.

RachelGuest

49:18

Yeah, you're going to absolutely cry, I cry, I cry.

KimHost

49:22

I'm excited for that part Revenge.

RachelGuest

49:24

Yeah, that's fine, that's fine, that's fine. It's just like a really it feels good and it's sad and it's closure and it's closure. I think that's one of the really hard things with a lot of festivals and retreats and stuff like that is the reintegration back into society. And one of the things that I love the most about the closing ceremony is that I mean, technically, it probably shouldn't even be called a ceremony, right Like it's. It should be more so like a class or just like a workshop, like a shared space, because there's a little bit of structure, but not much. It normally is me starting opening up the circle and crying at everyone. Oh good, and just being like I will also be crying. Yeah, why are you all so fantastic?

KimHost

50:35

Oh, and then that's when I go boohooohooo

RachelGuest

50:39

And it's.

KimHost

50:41

I'm ready.

RachelGuest

50:41

Yeah, it's only myself, Jeremy and Jess. Let's start it and we'll read out some of the gratitudes and then we kind of just open up the circle for people to share whatever they want to. And it's fucking beautiful, it's, it's fucking beautiful it's it's so great glimpses that I've seen are beautiful, and that's why I'm really determined to be there this year it's. It just feels good, you know it. Like I said, the aspect of it being closure, Like I think it validates everyone feeling like this was a really important thing and we all agree that it was and it also for me, I feel obligated to continue the work after leaving it Because I feel like I can't let everyone down. You know, like we had this thing and we had these four days and we got to keep going and it just I don't know I I'm having a hard time even being able to put it into words.

KimHost

52:14

Here's what I am hearing you say yeah, this is how I'm going to phrase it. Anahata's is sort of like a really intense meditation period where you're slowly introduced, you're slowly brought into that mindset, like on thursday. You're slowly getting oriented in this space, which is very different from any other space in the freaking universe.

RachelGuest

52:28

Yeah, you do the Anahata's things. You go through the changes that you're going to go through and you are…

KimHost

52:33

That's a fact whether you go to the classes or not. I didn't go to any of the classes the first year and I came out completely changed.

RachelGuest

52:39

So you go through your changes and at the end, the people leading the meditation slowly bring you back to who you are not who you were before, because you're going to be different, but this new version of yourself. They don't just drop you off like, okay, I know you're spacey as hell because you just went through all this. Bye. No, they bring you back and help you ground again.

RachelGuest

53:20

It's the festival version of this integration workshop. It's like we go on a four day trip and then we integrate it all into our lives.

KimHost

53:30

Yeah. I'm excited to go there, because I think that's part of the problem that I have when I get back is that I don't experience that. I'm still caught in that outer space mind yeah. Which that'll still be there but it's, it's like clicked into place, it's like the gears fit. It's not just crazy wheels spinning in my head and they're not attached to anything.

RachelGuest

53:57

Yeah it's also nice to. It's like group therapy in a sense, where you're hearing other people talk about their experience and then you can relate to it and be like I'm not crazy, that happened, that was real. I've had facilitators that have sent, like their team members to come that at first were really like uncomfortable and when I followed up with that, it was actually all fine and their words was that it was like a cultural shock, like the facilitator was confused about like how this was happening. Like they've been to other festivals, they've done other things and they were like what? Like I don't, like they just didn't understand it and it took them a day and now they're in for life. But it was. KimHost

55:11

Yes, that's what happened. I got stress, diarrhea.  And then someone gave me some Pepto just a random person, I didn't know. And then suddenly everything was great. I'm an Anahatas for life. Yeah, come get diarrhea, cry in the river and then join the cult.

RachelGuest

55:24

Is Anahatas one big ayahuasca trip because, oh my god, that's what's happening but like you don't have to have a full panic, you don't have to shit yourself yeah, just don't have an anxiety disorder when you go but you can, you can totally have that. We got that on, we can. We can totally handle that.

KimHost

55:48

We'll find you, pepto yeah, people will have pepto when you're there. I bring some now because I know. I’m gonna be one of the magic pepto fairies.

RachelGuest

55:52

That's one of the things that I love, too is it's like if you need a thing, like everyone is just down to help you put it somewhere that everybody gathers that information, whether it's a card on a thank you wall or you post it in the Facebook group, or now you can post it in the app.

KimHost

56:17

You're like I need help with blah, blah, blah. Somebody will have a be able to do something for you. Yeah, even like blankets.

RachelGuest

56:27

I need a blanket for friday flying in and I'm can't, and I'm in a a cabin. Can someone bring me blankets and pillow? Every year we have people that bring other people that they don't even know.

KimHost

56:37

Yeah, clean blankets and pillows. I am one of the people that benefit from that. Yeah, that's how you make friends, homies, you borrow their blankets.

RachelGuest

56:47

There's something about like complete strangers.

KimHost

56:51

Yes, joyfully doing it, not grudgingly. It is like a gift. We love helping everyone else, I'm including myself.

RachelGuest

57:07

Having received help and having given help yeah, because the second you receive it you're just like oh, that was really great. I want everyone else to feel like that.

KimHost

57:11

Yes, that's Anahatas. Yeah, Y'all should come. Yeah, you should. So we're going to talk about lodging and what it's going to be like where you're staying. There are three or four different types of places the lodges which I think are sold out. I think she said maybe there's Webster available by the time this goes out. I don't know. There's cabins, which I went to the first year Super fun, great way to mesh yourself in with a group of people, whether you know them or not, and it has electricity and you're in a building. And then there's camping. I have not seen the. I don't even know where the outposts are, though I've never been to those, to my knowledge. So can you explain the outposts?

RachelGuest

57:55

Yeah, so you you have seen them. I'm going to tell you where they are because they're cool. So when you go past Egg Hill, hammock Village, past the nature center, and then you go down and there's that big, beautiful like grassy area by Woodland Pavilion and there's those six cabins out in the woods. They're like in the woods.

KimHost

58:19

No, I was doing. I was on a panel in the Woodland Pavilion and all I could think about was oh my God, so I didn't notice them.

RachelGuest

58:31

They are okay. There's cabins out there which aren't really that far, like it's. When I say out there, it's not like you have to like walk a mile to them. That's where you want to go. If you want it quiet, probably yeah, because it can get a little bit loud by the music if you're camping that's true, but the music ends at 11 and we you know, my security people know to tell people to shut up if they're being too loud.

KimHost

58:57

I'm saying, if you like want to quiet experience while you're there. That's where you would stay, more than sky hill camping or main camping yeah, like the people aren't going to have.

RachelGuest

59:10

There's not going to be like a big bonfire out front of your cabin, like sky hill, like we're obviously going to be having our friday night fire, yeah, so yes to that sense. But what's cool is it's two cabins per site, so there's three little sites and each of the sites have their own pavilion and their own little fire pit and they sleep just a few people. They're much smaller. There is electricity? No, there's not. I thought there wasn't. There's electricity? No, there's not. I thought there wasn't. There's not electricity. But there's a bathhouse. Its own bathhouse is out there, yeah, and that has electricity so you can charge whatever you need to and do all of that stuff.

You're right near the water, which is really great, important, mm-hmm, really great important, and it's just it's so it is. It's it's peaceful and nice out there and I what we'll normally have is people will group there, because if so, if people want more than 10 people together, that's the place, because they could take a whole site. So if there's like a bigger group too, and everyone buys the tickets, then it's like they have their own. Yeah, they'll have their own For the bees. Yeah, they have their own whole campsite area.

KimHost

01:00:44

Imagine how you could fancy that place up. Bees. Oh my gosh that's exciting. You bring some  lights for those cabins though, just so everyone knows also there is a packing list on the google doc, the schedule that Rachel was just talking about.

RachelGuest

01:01:08

Yes. So the first page, ap24, if you scroll down, it says here is the suggested packing list. If you are having difficulties deciding on what to bring and you click on that, jabby, and it will give you. It'll take you to a link and on one side it's suggested things to pack and bring if you are in the cabins, the outposts or the lodge, and the other one for camping. So it's just nice when cause I know a lot of people are like I haven't been there before, I don't know what to do, what to bring. I have a bunch of. I have some stuff even linked in there.

KimHost

01:01:47

I do appreciate that, because that's how I find the bug spray.

RachelGuest

01:01:51

Yeah, the permethrin.

KimHost

01:01:54

Also, don't worry, you're not going to a third world country. There is a Walmart, maybe 15 minutes away.

RachelGuest

01:01:59

There is. You don't feel like there are stores.

KimHost

01:02:02

Yeah, it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere in the woods, but there are stores.

RachelGuest

01:02:09

You won't be without things, but even like you don't even really need to go to the store.

KimHost

01:02:16

Somebody there will have what you need. More than likely, yes, yeah, somebody will have it.

RachelGuest

01:02:19

Just ask a person Do not go to the store for bug spray. Come up to me personally Sunblock, aloe, everyone has that tylenol, even like and even if you don't want to ask someone, we have a medical team.

KimHost

01:02:31

Yeah, oh yeah, there's a med tent and those people are great and they have amazing. Okay, I had my hip replaced yeah, both of them by now, but one of my my feet, like my legs swelled up because I was in the car for a long time and that's bad for your circulation, and so they had this machine that's kind of like a TENS to squeeze my muscles, to squeeze all the juice back into my body and off my leg. So they are amazing. Yes, go to the med tent. Just to say hi, thank you, yeah.

RachelGuest

01:03:04

They are a brother and sister duo, kevin and kristin go gots. They actually work in vale a lot of the time at like a ski resort too, which is neat, but like I, just I can't sing their praises enough. I love them, they are fantastic and if you need anything, they got you. I was really impressed. He has literally saved somebody's life on the side of a mountain before at another festival, helicoptered out, had seven minutes to do something and saved a guy. I won't get into it because it's like Trauma.

KimHost

01:03:44

Thanks because that would like. That freaked me out they're amazing.

RachelGuest

01:03:50

Yeah, last year, the year before he goes over the walkie, and he's like, all right, I'm gonna go do a kayak check. And we're like, oh okay, like you're gonna. You know, because he was like going in kayaking, he was gonna go down the water. He just randomly was like I'm gonna go do this. Know, because he was going in kayaking and he was going to go down the water. He just randomly was like I'm going to go do this. And we thought he was just joking and that he was going to take a break. He wanted to go on a kayak. Turns out there was somebody who was stuck in their kayak that he helped get out. It's like, how did he know?

KimHost

01:04:20

I mean, it is this event, I mean there's a bunch of witches. Maybe it's rubbing off, or maybe he has his own thing that we don't know about.

RachelGuest

01:04:36

Yeah, they definitely Healer's intuition. Yes, that's interesting. Yes, that's true, and also they own that witchy side. They're familiar.

KimHost

01:04:53

See, you'll also be safe, very safe, yes, yeah, and there's security at the gates and things.

RachelGuest

01:04:55

Plus, basically, everyone is carrying an anahata's knife from uh warpath and we got tim and jess. Tim always jokes about uh, if a bear comes, that he's gonna. Are there bears there? I mean there's bears in pennsylvania, but they're not gonna be like there, because it's even though you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, we're not in the middle of nowhere.

KimHost

01:05:21

There's things around us it's still just black bears, right, even if it is bears. Yeah, not okay.

RachelGuest

01:05:28

Yeah, that's fine but tim wants one, and then once john. So even if there's a bear, him will be on it and then he'll probably make dope ass jewelry out of the bones and stuff.

KimHost

01:05:45

Yes, Imagine a claw, I know. Or if you put them on your glasses right there Like eyebrows, but it's a bear claws.

RachelGuest

01:05:59

This is not anything that I would ever imagine that I need in my life, but I need it in my life.

KimHost

01:06:05

Yeah, Do you remember when I shaved my eyebrows for COVID and I was like I'm going to keep them shaved until people start doing what they need to do? They never did and I did let them grow back, but I would every day I would take a picture with different things taped. They're like your eyebrows with different things glued to my face for eyebrows. It was very fun. I'll show you some pictures later.

RachelGuest

01:06:31

Yeah, I love it. Eyebrows were all the rage in 2020.

KimHost

01:06:37

The picture actually the picture that I sent you may be from that time when I have branch eyebrows. Yes, it's when I didn't shave them. I waxed my eyebrows completely off. That's fine and you can see if you go to, if you, when you see the picture of me as a facilitator, that is me after I had waxed my eyebrows off and glued some mesquite leaves to my face instead, and it's great.

RachelGuest

01:07:11

That’s fantastic.

KimHost

01:07:12

I almost asked you for the me licking the butt picture, but I thought maybe, maybe go a little bit more appropriate, perhaps. I still love that picture.

RachelGuest

01:07:23

The picture is the best and that's what I'm saying. You've changed so much because when that first that, when that picture came out first you were like don't you share that anywhere? And now you're like that's the best picture of me ever. Party butt, that's the party butt.

KimHost

01:07:39

Yes y'all can visit the party butt too, I believe, so get ready for that. Okay, is there anything else we need to cover?

RachelGuest

01:07:50

No, I think we're wrapping up. I got like 30 years before I start recording the other one.

KimHost

01:07:58

Okay, Rachel, thank you. I will see you in about a month. I'm excited to give you a hug.

RachelGuest

01:08:06

I am I'm so excited for a hug. No-one else is allowed to hug, just me.

KimHost

01:08:23

Most other people Please don't come up and hug me please. Please, please, don't do that.

RachelGuest

01:08:29

The first time that people from Canada showed up. I was so excited at the fact that someone from Canada came that I hugged them and I didn't ask, and then I just felt horrible about it. But they've come back, they're coming back. But I just kept every time I saw them like I'm so sorry that I just hugged you.

KimHost

01:08:53

Okay, I might give out hugs okay anyway, everyone come to Anahata's. Look for the link below to buy your tickets. If you haven't bought it yet, please do so. I want to see you and meet you and see you in my class.

RachelGuest

01:09:04

I do too, I do. I want all of that, and I love hugs.

KimHost

01:09:15

Good.

RachelGuest

01:09:16

And I do get one.

KimHost

01:09:17

Everyone go hug Rachel and not me.

RachelGuest

01:09:18

Yes, come hug me.

KimHost

01:09:19

I don't know. I might have a day where I wear a shirt that says huggy. If you see me with a shirt that says huggy on it, then that's the day I'm your granddad and you can come get a hug from your granddad. But please ask before you touch me, because I have issues. Just let me know you're there first. Don't grab me. Listen, I'll be carrying a knife.

RachelGuest

01:09:24

I will hug you with a knife, okay, and I won't hurt you when I hug you with my knife and anyone can. I'm a good hugger because I mean it. That's how we're all going to judge you is. If your your hug isn't good, Kim, then we know that you don't mean it, so you need to really up your hug Just put you on the couch.

KimHost

01:10:08
